Email Homework to Students and Parents without Leaving Your Classroom

Cool Productivity Tool: Genius Scan The productivity tool that I have chosen to share is called Genius Scan. Genius Scan turns your smart phone and tablet into a scanner.  You simply take a picture of your document, and Genius Scan enhances it.  Then, you can email it as a PDF or JPEG.   This application is a must have for every teacher! It is “FREE” for Apple users at the iTunes store and a $1.09 at the Google store. In my school,…See More

Why Not Use Avatars to Create Vodcasts?

According to the textbook, Web 2.0 How-to-for-Educators, "A vodcast is a video podcast; in essence, it is an on-demand production that contains video and audio information. These can be downloaded as a file, or received as streaming video, delivered live as they are being produced." Vodcast Idea 1: Ask your students to create an avartar that looks like a character in a storybook. Then, ask the students to record a section of the story by reading it aloud with expression and intonation. This is…See More

Learning Tip: Skype an Author on Your Whiteboard

As a technology mentor in my school, I know that educators are always looking for a new lesson to engage their students. After reading chapter 5 in our textbook, I thought that I would share a TIP with you on how to interact with your students on the whiteboard. Last week, the third grade teacher had the students Skype the author of a chapter book that they were reading in class. What an amazing lesson!  It was incredible to see how memorized the students were as they interviewed Lisa Graff…See More

Blog: Second Life          GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE: LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS

This was my first experience in Second Life. At first, I was a little intimidated on how to navigate and use Second Life tools. Being from an early generation, my gaming skills consisted of Atari: Packman and Donkey Kong.  The graphics and interactive capabilities in Second Life are amazing.  I am so grateful to save money on plane tickets and hotels now that I have discovered how to…

Blog:  Web 2.0 Tools

I feel that Web 2.0 tools would be an asset to any school.  Web 2.0 tools are web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing and collaboration. As a technology educator, these applications have fostered my students’ learning in a fun and engaging manner.  No longer does learning just take place in the classroom.  Children can acquire knowledge from around the world.  I recommend that all educators read the book Web 2.0…

Sure, I would be happy to.  I am by no means an App developer though.  I don't know Computer programming, and I don't own a Mac - yet.  How do you sign up to be an app developer?  Are you learning the Java programming and other coding to develop apps or do you already know it?  I would suggest you visit Teachers With Apps to learn about high quality apps.  The teachers who founded the site even developed an App called ABC Shakedown which is free and ABC Shakedown Plus which is $1.99 in the App Store.  These apps are for early childhood PK-K and focus on phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. If you visit Teacherswithapps.com you can contact Jayne Clare, one of the founders of the site.  She is a Special Ed teacher, reading specialist, and has a Masters in Technology.  I have been in touch with her for quite some time.  Also, the highly popular Facebook group EdAppTalk is a group to join as well.  They have chats on Thursday nights and usually have an App Developer present who can answer questions about his/her apps, and they often give away promocodes too.
