Twitter in the Classroom

Using Twitter can be a useful tool in the classroom. Student can use Twitter to quickly respond to a lesson or post questions to their peers. Teacher can throw out writing prompts and questions that the student can respond to. Also, students can connect to a global learning community through twitter. They can research what either people are tweeting bout a certain topic and get a better understanding of others' views.  My biggest fear is using a social network site that I can't truly control.…See More

First Time Blogger

I have never blogged before. I have read blogs, but never actually started one. I certainly have not used them in my classroom...yet.After reading about the different uses for blogging, I am convinced that this is a great tool to use in the classroom. Blogs can be used for reader's responses, independent reading, or journal writing. I can easily see myself using blogs for compiling research for a project. My students do at least 2-3 research projects throughout the year. They can take notes on…See More

Apple TV

After posting that I needed tips on modeling apps to my students, I got a lovely gift at my door, an Apple TV. I am planning on using it to model new apps or show fun pictures of the students doing activities. However, I would love for some suggestions on how to effectively use this new tool. I would love to hear as many suggestions as possible! See More

Modeling Apps

I am fortunate to have iPads for my student this year. Since it is new to them, I have to spend a lot of time teaching them how to use certain apps and modeling for them how to use it. I am curious how people are modeling apps? Are you using programs to project your ipads? Do you have IT staff or volunteers  help out?See More

KWHL Charts for Technology Lessons

In my reading of Technology Integration for Meaningful Classroom Use, I came across an interesting suggestiong for involving the students in the planning and monitoring of the activities. Many of us have used the KWL chart in our class before. However, I personally never used it for a technology learning activity. The book suggests using a KWHL chart. What you Know, Want to know, How you will learn and what did you Learn. Including the "How" involves the students in the planning of the lesson.…See More

How to "sell" the use of iPad

I am piloting a 1:1 ipad program in my classroom this year. After my back to school night, where I presented the program and how I would use the ipads, some parents were hesitant. Some parents were concerned that their child would not be using a paper and pencil anymore. How do I "sell" the use of iPads in my classroom? How do I convine parents that this is the way of the future? How do I reassure them that we are strengthening their skills and creativity? See More

Google Docs

This year, my school changed over our system to google apps. So far, it has been effective in collaboration and organization. Shared documents are used for team meetings or committees. Teachers share lesson plans and curriculum guides. I log all of my students' grades onto a shared spreadsheet. I am able to share it with my supervisor,  my assistant and the support teachers.…
