iPads for Everyone

As a parent and an educator my goal is to enhance the learning experience of every child and to empower them to take greater ownership of their learning. iPads have endless educational value for children, teachers and leaders in schools. An unobtrusive device, small and lightweight, yet powerful and expansive, the iPad will become as ubiquitous as a pencil once was. What return is this investment yielding? Increased student autonomy, increased student engagement ( Mueller, Wood, Pasquale…See More

Dina Rabhan commented on Josh Kahn's blog post Meaningful student feedback
"Josh, I am certain that the scenario you are describing is a familiar one to many educators and that is precisely the challenge we are facing. It is not only the challenge in our own classrooms but it is the entire culture of a school. While a…"

"Dov, this is so exciting to read about especially because I spent Thursday morning in IS143 a public middle school right across the street from Yeshiva University. The Assistant principal who manages the school's 600 students, also…"

Google sounds like frugal

My father is a pretty tech savvy guy. In fact, he always has the latest tech toys even before his 11 grandchildren have them. But for some strange reason, he can't seem to pronounce the word google correctly-it always sounds like gugle(kind of like kugel). It make us all laugh and we try to have him repeat after us "google, like frugal". While it's silly, it is a constant reminder to all of us how new the concept of google is. For digital immigrants, it is a different language that needs to be…See More

PC (PodCasting) for PD(Professional Development)

While there are so many obvious ways to extend students' learning with podcasting(having children do pre-learning with PC or enriching the unit for the students that complete their assignments early or simply providing more whole class instruction that the students can listen to at home after the school day is over)imagine the possibilities for the teachers' learning and their professional development (PD)? GONE are the days of a school commiserating that they lack funding for PD! SO LONG to…See More

How tweet it is!

Although I have had a twitter account for over 2 years already, I began actually using it this week. Perhaps it's my age, but I must admit, it is slightly overwhelming and fast paced for me. But I don't discourage easily and I have been fascinated by it's value as a resource and it's potential utilitiy for learning. Twitter is a powerful connector. While sometimes the tweets are silly, I enjoy reading about Rabbi Ross's excitement that his PBL students were sitting and doing their work before…See More

Blogging as an educational tool-for ME!

It used to be called journalling, now its called blogging-its all about writing and reflecting. There is nothing more powerful in education than reflecting-it takes experiences from one part of our brain and places it in a different part that creates deeper learning. And its so easy now on the computer. Everyone should be blogging. Leaders, teachers and students alike. This will push the entire school, as a true learning community, to reflect and to deepen their learning. Leaders on their…See More
