Collaboration Fluency

I listened to the video about Collaboration Fluency. I agreed with every word the teacher said. The idea that we are teaching for short term memory is correct. We are all saying that problem solving, creativity, thinking analytically and collaboration are the goals of the 21st century, but we can’t really do it if on a daily basis we are focusing on the lowest levels of Bloom Taxonomy. If the highest level on the Taxonomy is creativity, then the base for all our activities should be creativity,…See More

Students create Hebrew websites

During the pillar of defense operation that recently occurred in Israel, I decided to teach an overview of the Arab-Israeli conflict to my 8th graders (during my Hebrew class). The class was conducted both in Hebrew and English and included a review of our history, connecting the land of Israel to the Jewish people. As we progressed with our classes, I realized that I needed to teach them much more than our history. The students are going to graduate from our school and they should have a…See More

Using parent volunteers in your classroom

Using parent volunteers in your classroomParent volunteers can be a great help or a huge distraction in the classroom. Parents can be a valuable resource to the teacher and the students. There is a way to involve every parent who wants to participate. The key to having an excellent volunteer program is organization and high standards. I am not sure that I am organize enough, in this point, to use parents in my classroom, but I thought of ways that I will be able to use them in the future:⥀Help…See More

UBD (Understanding By Design) through Technology

Reading chapter 5 reminded me the theory behind UBD (Understanding By Design) - Creating curriculum units and lessons should be about reaching a desired learner outcome. Once we have established where we want our students to be at the end of the unit, the content should fall into a logical sequence. In addition, the path to the endured goal should be creative and meaningful. Small groups’ activities and projects are great ways to achieve our goals.  Do you agree with me that that this is…See More

What Americans Keep Ignoring About Finland's School Success

The ISTE Standards seem to follow the educational Standards in Finland. The system is based on creative and innovating thinking, engaged students, self reflections and collaboration. When asked about accountability among teachers, the minister of education said: "Accountability is something that is left when responsibility has been subtracted." - What a concept!!!! The best educational system in the world (Hebrew)

Last month I watched a program put together by the Israeli TV about the educational system in Finland. In the last twelve years, Finland won first place in every educational competition in the world. It was fascinating to learn and see what they are doing and why they are so successful. At that time, I thought that we here in America, won't be able to do what they are doing there, but the more I read about the technology standards, the more I understand that we can do it. If you understand…See More
