This week I used animoto for the first time. It was really fun and easy. I made a video showing the levels of organization in living things from subatomic particles to the organism level. I will use it as a review for my students. Here is a link to it.levels of organizationSee More

social networking

Social networking sounded really scary to me. I keep hearing about the dangers involved and how careful you have to be about your personal information. I never knew how easy it is to set up a private social network. It can even be free! I love edmodo. It is so easy to use. I want to set one up for each of my classes and use it to communicate out of school. Maybe also for homework. I think I should start with just one class though. We will see how it goes!See More

No longer Bitter about Twitter

I have always found Twitter to be extremely unsettling. I am personally not that interested in that many people's lives. I don't want to "follow" other people (I want to be a leader) and I don't want anyone following me. If I really care about someone, and want to know how they are doing I will call them on the phone like a mentch. However, after reading how it can be used as an educational tool I do see some advantages. I like the idea of having students respond to a tweet for an in class or…See More

Blogging concerns

Hi All!This is a blog about blogging. Actually I am not entirely comfortable with this concept. I don't want just anyone to be able to read what I have to say. Additionally, I don't understand why someone out there, who I don't know would be interested in reading this. (Maybe I should try to write something that others would be interested in...)As a High School Science teacher I can see how blogging could be beneficial for my students. However, I do not feel ready to assign something which…See More

Liberty Science Center - Programs at your school

http://lsc.org/for-educators/programs-at-your-school/The Liberty Science Center has a few great programs which you don't even have to leave your classroom for. They can actually come down and do experiments with your class. They can do experiments over the web, and they even have this program in which students can watch a live surgery and even speak to the surgeon.See More

tech for all learners

I have recently begun using a smartboard. I try to take advantage of the interactive abilities of the smartboard by having my students manipulate activities on it. I love it. However, my favorite aspect is how every student gets excited when I turn it on and wants to participate. Students with learning disabilities, advanced students, as well as students who went to sleep late and are really tired. all of them focus. They all want to and can participate. whether they are splitting chromosomes,…See More

google docs

Actually, I never did understand the greatness of Google docs until I read this weeks chapter. Now I can't wait to try it out. I save all my documents that I need for class on my little flash drive and every night my nightmares are that I will leave it at home and not be prepared for class. With Google docs I can access my documents from anywhere. I never have to be worried that I won't have the quiz that I spent an hour writing ready for class. Additionally, the collaborative aspects…
