Our BLOGishere enters 6th grade learning

Hi All,This year I initiated a Blog page for each of my two 6th grade classes. We are studying our roots as a people. During some of the classes, I ask students to BLOG on our KIDBLOG page. As someone who is beginning to use technology in the classroom, this tool is easy to use and a favorite of my students. See More

It sounds like to are doing really exciting things.
Reagarding the journey from Ur to Israel...
Google earth (there are different views) will give the kids a view of the type of terrain.
They can easily see why the prefered way from Ur to Israel is the long way (following the river). They can also appreciate the designation given to Avraham as Ivri (and look up the origin of the English word "Hebrew").
You can also have them calculate the distance.
You may also want them to research about the nations that lived in Mesopotamia as compared to Israel and trace these nations back to Noah. This will be useful for when/if you lear (Bereishit 14) the battle between the 4 and the 5 kings and the underlying conflict between them (just like today: who does the land belong to: the descendants of Shem of those of Ham.
Let me know...
Wishing you continued hatzlacha
