Formative Assessment: Technology Enhanced Approaches to Increase Student Achievement”

For this week’s assignment, I watched a session of the International Society for Technology (ISTE) 2011 conference. It was session 118A titled “Formative Assessment: Technology Enhanced Approaches to Increase Student Achievement” This was a very informative session on formative assessment. Several different ideas were discussed by technology integration specialists and I learned a great deal from them. First, I was exposed to backchannel. Backchannel is an online conversation that happens…See More

Dropbox

I recently learned of a productivity tool that sound fantastic.  It is called Dropbox.  It has many uses. For one, it is a way to share and organize files for yourself in the cloud. One can insert files into his/her Dropbox from the computer, smartphone, laptop, iPod, etc. It is saved in the cloud and therefore, can be shared with others. In addition, it can be easily used in a classroom where documents and/or files need to be shared and modified by a number of people in a group or class. It…See More

NO TECHNOLOGY IN SCHOOL? OH MY!

The following is a New York Times article that I find quite interesting. While searching for new trends in technology in education reviews I found this article about a school that does the exact opposite, it does not use ANY technology. The article speaks of a school in Silicon Valley that does not feel the need to use any technology because the students are immersed in a great deal of technology all the time at home. The article made me stop and think and about the use of technology in the…See More

Great Parsha Website as Support for Conversation

In Chapter 4 of the book "Technology Integration for Meaningful Classroom Use" we learned how computer technology (software and websites) can be used as a tutor, a mindtool and as a support for conversation. In addition, we learned that there are many ways in which technology can foster creative thinking and good conversation starters in many different classroom settings.        I use a website for parsha study in 6th grade called G-d Cast. This is a quote from the G-dcast website that…See More

Google Docs in Hebrew with Nikkud

I am a 4th and 6th grade Hebrew teacher.  I often struggle with writing curriculum and worksheets in Hebrew primarily because my students still need the nikkud. Until this year I used Dagesh to create worksheets and lessons for my students. This year, our school is moving towards using Google Docs.  I am afraid that this will be a difficult transition, given that I need the capability of writing Hebrew WITH nikkud.  Has anyone had any experience with using Google Docs for Hebrew lessons and…See More

Interesting Parsha Study Website

http://www.g-dcast.com/I use this website for parsha study in 6th grade. This is a quote from the G-dcast website that accurately describes what it is:"G-dcast is a non-profit production company dedicated to raising worldwide Jewish literacy using the tools and storytelling style that speak to today’s youth. To date, we have created over 70 short films - all available for free on this website - based on Jewish texts that have been viewed…See More

This was my first creation using Animoto and I absolutely loved it. I made a 30 second movie using pictures I took of the Old City of Jerusalem. In my 4th grade class, the integrated unit for the second semester is Jerusalem. Each student is assigned a different aspect of the city to study, write about,…

My First Experience with Edmondo

Hello! Today I experienced Edmoto for the first time. It was a positive experience. Edmoto is a social networking site and I joined a group composed of members of my Ed Tech class at YU. I needed to sign up and then join the group already created by a classmate. Once signed up, I was able to choose "communities" to belong to. For example, I joined Career and Ed Tech, Computer Technologies, and World languages, all things…
