My Favorite Web2.0 Tool

This assignment was supposed to be a blog about our favorite Web 2.0 tools. How can I even think of limiting it to one favorite. Until 3 years ago, I had no idea that Web 2.0 existed. I signed up for a course in NY on “web 2.0 in the classroom,” not even knowing what Web 2.0 was. Wow, that opened a new world to me.How do I use Web 2.0? From the time I wake up, I am using it. When I get up, I check my email on Gmail. If I…See More

Second Life

I tried navigating Second Life and frankly do not see the beauty or the need for it in education. I found it hard to navigate and actually got a little nauseous trying to find the treasures. It did not even hold my interest enough, to want to go back and explore more on Second Life. I am also not sure, I accomplished what was asked of me in the assignment. I went into YU2.0 and tried looking at other blogs about Second Life. I went into Eliezer Jones' Second Life about the Kotel. I found it…See More

Staying Current

Since I went to ISTE for the past 2 years, I wasn’t interested in watching a video of one of the sessions. Since we are a 1;1 iPad school, in some grades, my principal asked me to “attend” an online webinar (6 days before Erev Pesach) on “Implementing Best Practices in Planning for 1:1 iPad Programs”.  With Meir Wexler’s permission, I am reporting on this excellent and informative webinar. …See More

Edmodo and Native Americans

My third grade computer class was embarking on a research project about Native Americans in the state of Maryland. I have a very close working relationship with the general studies teacher, who despite her age (late 60′s) is very excited about integrating the use of technology in her classroom. As ed tech coach I helped her accomplish this for this project.Mrs. R. and I met a few times to brainstorm our ideas. Since the students are only third graders we decided that giving them free reign on…See More

Visual Tools

For this assignment, I used Slide Rocket for the first time. (www.sliderocket.com). I really liked using it. I found it very intuitive and easy to use, maybe because I am so famiiar with Powerpoint.I like the fact that Slide Rocket is cloud based, so one is able to edit on any computer, anywhere. Before I tried Slide Rocket, I discovered a presentation tool called Kizoa. (www.kizoa.com). That too, was not difficult for…See More

Podcasts and Vodcasts

I have not tried podcasting yet, and truthfully it is on my “to do list.” I have been participating in a project through our local CJE of Baltimore, making professional development screencasts for teachers. They are being made on many topics and I have chosen to make screencasts about technology in the classroom, for teacher PD.When asked to make a podcast or vodcast for my Edtech 102B course, I decided to use the knowledge of screencasting I received from this CJE project and make a vodcast…See More

Twitter

I have been using Twitter since the Summer of 2011,when I attended ISTE for the very first time. I sat down next to a social media guru, Dave Weinberg and said, "explain Twitter to me.". Dave did, and my love affair with Twitter began then. I can honestly say that Twitter has changed my educational life dramatically. I think I have learned something new every time I log onto Twitter. The first thing Twitter has done for me is the establishment of an amazing Personal Learning Network. By using…See More

Blogging about blogging

I am not new to blogging. A few years ago, I started a blog, of personal recollections about my parents, of blessed memory. It was really good for me because it kept their memories alive and as I wrote, it brought back more memories. Now I am attempting to think about blogging again. I am using a new platform, Wordpress, which was quite easy to set up. It didn't take me any more time than when I set up my last blog on Blogger. I think any teacher or student can easily use this platform.I have…See More

Annotating PDF's on the iPad for the Purpose of Creating "Paperless" Homework

There is no need, when using iPads in school, for the exuse "the dog ate my homework." I have been trying to find good annotaing apps to create "paperless" homework assignments. There are a lot of good annotating apps for the iPad , Some are free and some are not.  I was looking for a good free app in which teachers can download worksheets, students can fill them out or dictate answers, if possible, and email the worksheet back to the teacher.Last year, our school used Neu Annotate, which was a…See More
