YU 2.0

I am not sure if now is the right time of the year to use the following saying, but there is a saying that says “when in Rome do as the Roman’s do”. Social networks are here, and they aren’t going away so fast. So as Jewish educators, how do we educate our students that everything has a purpose and a value? We show them how everything can be used for good too by having them use it for a good purpose. In order to turn this into a reality, I created a group in edmodo called JH Parsha (The code to join the group is: 40q3qf ). The idea for this group is to post a question on the upcoming Parsha in the beginning of each week, and have each of the students try to research and post a good answer to the question. The students will be required to post an answer of their own, as well as to reply to at least one other post per week. It is my hope that the students will be more open to creative thinking and to doing research for Torah as well. The reason why I chose edmodo as the social network, is because edmodo prides itself by being a closed social networking site for educators and their students.
