Comment by Tzvi D. Daum on September 24, 2012 at 8:38pm Dear Rabbi Wexler,
Thank you for the reflections and I have experienced many of the same things in my own classes. One thing that does stand out is that students are a lot less tech proficient than many people give them credit for. I try to keep things simple and give them extra time at the start of the year to get the hang of it.
Keep us posted!

Wow....I watched the entire video and am completely amazed. I wouldn't even know where to begin to even try anything like that. It just seems so far above how I would even think about incorporating technology into the classroom. Do you have any recommendations on a web quest? I would be very interested in trying to create one of them.

Comment by Pamela Levitt on October 5, 2012 at 11:52am Wex, I'm intrigued and amazed! Reading your post and checking out the links has led me to spend the morning glued to my chair. Your posts and several of the YU videos have captured my attention today and I can only hope to "escape" your clutches by the time I have to pick up my kids from school! :>) Like Amy, I realized by reading your post that other teachers are so far beyond my thinking. Taking the risks and trying new approaches to engage learners is where I aspire to take my teaching. I'm realizing through your course - and by getting into the YU2.0 site - that my mistake has been waiting for classroom teachers to "buy into" technology enhanced instruction. Now I have to rethink my whining about the lack of collaboration. I need to move onward and upward. I'm curious how the badges are working for you. Do they become an end in and of themselves? I ran into Class Dojo over the summer & thought it might be something we could use as a behavior managment system in the computer lab for my K-4 students, but when I showed the site to the 2nd graders all they wanted to know is if they could swap the assigned avatars. Hmm. Good or not so good? I don't know.
Comment by Rhoda Gleicher on October 5, 2012 at 12:37pm Rabbi Wex-I am very encouraged about using technology when reading about your paperless classroom. You seemed to have a very well thought out end game. How much time have you invested to set this up?
One comment particularly intrigued me and that is how students who are certified with executive disfunction disorders and the run of the mill disorganized incoming sixth grader would greatly benefit from a digital backpack. How much stress, both student and parent, could be avoided with such an idea.
As I teach middle school as well, you are spot on in your comments about their tech proficiency or lack thereof. In a class of 25, there are usually only one or two who feel comfortable using computers beyond opening Word. If there is a problem they are stumped on how to solve the issue. I try to get these students to teach their classmates--each one teach one--so more kids can be empowered. This is the model I use when eighth graders work on their yearbook using photostory. I spend several class periods having students sit with those who don't know the program and teach them. Once they are comfortable with the program we begin to compile the yearbook. I occurs to me that that is how I am most comfortable with learning in general, show me (a couple of times) and I can (mostly)take it from there!
I can't wait to read your next installment to see how your kids have adapted to their paperless environment! In particular, I want to know if their attention to directions improve!

This is really incredible ! If someone out side the educational world will read your post he might think that it is all sci-fi notion, but we know that it is reality. a great one ! My school has started to move towards Paperless Digital Class.
All our 7th and 8th grade had issued a chrome book one for each student . This already made the difference. In my Hebrew class I started the year by teaching the students to type in Hebrew so all the home work an the class assignments are now being submitted online throw Google doc . More over , all the Hebrew text books are on line -scanned in to PDF . The students are now able to access them from home.
Like someone else wrote before I also very curious how the badges are working for you ? and wondering how can I start implementing it also to my class ?
